I had the honor of delivering this year's Memorial Day Adrress in my small home town. (It's now on this website.) An unusual effect occured a couple of weeks later at a memorial service. I was approached by Hulda Bachman-Neeb, a WWII survivor of one of Japan's POW camps in SE Asia. She said to me something to this effect: "I attended the Memorial Day ceremony and heard your remarks. I didn't think anyone in our town could ever understand the loss I suffered as a Japanese prisoner of war. I too wrote a book about my war experiences." I was shocked and read (recommend) her book: Perils and Pearls.
